  2. Thanks Cat!

I grew up in the woods where a lot of people, often trappers, both sought and succumbed to isolation. I don’t know if in the case of covid the isolation or the restriction on movement is the worst of it. Every step is calculated, be it for conflict or compliance. Add all of the other stressors, that I am exceedingly fortunate to avoid – scarcity of food, shelter … the basics. And then nowhere to go when one needs to run, or is ousted. Or just in need of a dash of normalcy. At other times in history, in other areas of the world, these constraints were/are commonplace. And life goes on, some taking desperate measures to escape and others to adapt or just hold on. And some succumb.

I’m torn between admiration and angst for Mrs. Fiklesbrank. And then there’s the plumber … .

  3. This makes me think about time. Time that passes for some to make hand washing and mask wearing a habit to the point where it becomes muscle memory. Or time it takes for some to protest change because they cannot make their lives function in the ‘restriction’ that sets them out of their normal routine. Or the time some can withstand isolation before feeling desperate for connection to another, be it physical, mental or emotional.
This is a very timely reminder of the hurdles we all may face day to day. Even when we think we’re prepared, another may be at the end of the line.
