The Assumption(s) of the Soulless Shoes
David Hume noted,
That the sun will not rise to-morrow is no less intelligible a proposition, and implies no more contradiction, than the affirmation, that it will rise.
David Hume (1711-1776). David Steinberg, Ed. An Essay Concerning Human Understanding. Second Edition. Hackett Publishing Company:Indianapolis. 1993. Section IV, Pt.I, p.15
Why assume that people threw these shoes ‘up’ to catch by their laces on the branches of this tree? Why not assume that people dropped the shoes from a passing plane or hot air balloon? That a murder of marauding crows raided a track and field event and dropped their weighty shoe-booty in order to beat a speedy get away. Or that the soulless shoes dropped from the feet of people lifted by the rapture?
