Why assume that people threw these shoes ‘up’ to catch by their laces on the branches of this tree? Why not assume that people dropped the shoes from a passing plane or hot air balloon? That a murder of marauding crows raided a track and field event and dropped their weighty shoe-booty in order to beat a speedy get away. Or that the soulless shoes dropped from the feet of people lifted by the rapture?
