(Will anyone know who Sarah Palin is anymore?)
Sometimes someone standing on the outside of our social circle and of the peer review process can offer us criticism, but we’re often not willing to take it – at least not from just anybody on the outside. We’re apt to accept criticism from someone our tribes will approve off. Come on now, if Sarah Palin shows you the error of your ways and you thank her for her criticism, will you fess up at the next faculty meeting? It’s better for you to call the woman an airhead and mock her to let your tribe know you aren’t having dirty thoughts such as “she was right on that point.”
